As part of the Sunbury Electrification Project, proposed upgrades to the Diggers Rest Railway Station will include inbound and outbound platform extensions, an additional 500 to 550 car spaces, (approximately 400 between School Lane and the rail line and an additional 150 spaces beyond the existing spaces between Coimadai Road and the rail line). This should provide a Major Commuter Park & Ride Facility for Diggers Rest with easy access from the Calder Freeway and Sunbury via Vineyard Road.
In addition, upgrades are to include proposed train radio base station, level crossing upgrade, CCTV security cameras, secure lighting, duress alarms, refurbished toilets, waiting rooms, increased platform shelter, additional platform seats and rubbish bins, new passenger information displays showing arrival time information, improved timetable information, new clocks installed along platforms, improved station & platform lighting, booking office facilities, DDA compliant access and with more frequent and extended train services.
